Our very first missions team of the summer arrived today from Holly Springs Baptist Church in Pickens, South Carolina. We were thrilled to see their big white van pull into the parking area near the office at Huntington Ridge. Welcome!
Before the team began their ministry, we had the opportunity to tell them about Huntington Ridge -- the joys and the sorrows. They saw firsthand the difficult living conditions here . . . This refrigerator came out of an empty apartment. It was full of rotten food. What a smell!
But there are many beautiful things here, too -- and we know God loves the people of Huntington Ridge. Tim led in prayer before the Holly Springs team went out into the field. The team spent more than an hour in the vicious heat going from door to door inviting children to come over to the after-school and soccer area for a big fiesta! It won't take as long to round everyone up the next two days. The kids were all very excited about the fun in store. An afternoon of games, refreshments, crafts and the story of God's love made the children feel extra special. And they are!
Back in our apartment, Andrei was working on an early Father's Day cake. Yummy.
Today was poignant for Tim and me. We signed the documents that finalized the sale of our house in Missouri. There's no turning back now. We really miss our friends in Camdenton, Osage Beach, Jefferson City, St. Louis, Springfield, and Kansas City. I feel a lot of emotion about letting go of the nest I worked so hard to feather. And that lake view can't be beat. But we know God brought us to Georgia for a purpose. We sense His presence in our lives so powerfully each day. This is where we're supposed to be. We'll visit Missouri often, and we're keeping our church membership there. After all, our son is still attending Missouri State University and my father and stepmother live nearby. All the same . . . the Lord's sweet call keeps Georgia on our minds.
